SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Course Objectives & Content

Course Objectives: This course aims to give students an insight into and understanding of new communication technologies: How they have affected users, what their dynamics are and how public relations professionals can create better communication strategies that are suitable for these new environments.
Course Content: The course starts with the impact of new media technologies on public relations profession and goes on to explore what these technologies and tools are: Social media, weblogs, Web 2.0, search engine optimization, social networking sites, e-mails, podcasts, online video, webcasting, twitter, mobile communication.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) are those describing the knowledge, skills and competencies that students are expected to achieve upon successful completion of the course. In this context, Course Learning Outcomes defined for this course unit are as follows:

  1) Follows new media elements such as social media, blogs, e-mail campaigns, social networking sites, podcasting, online video, wiki, viral public relations, viral marketing, viral advertising concepts, search engine optimization and plans to work in accordance with their users' specifications.
  2) Recognizes the information, concepts and terms used in the field of public relations.
  3) Knows about mobile communication and organizes communication plans according to the requirements of these environments.
