GENERAL INFORMATION

Psychology is an important discipline contributing to better understanding of individuals, societies, interactions between individuals and interactions that are affected by national and international changes occurring as a result of factors such as technological developments, globalization and migration. Need for mental health workers has increased in the recent years due to factors such as increase in stress relating to continuously changing economical and societal conditions, decrease in prejudice against psychological support and more accessible community services. In recent years, there has also been increase in number of young people who want to learn and apply psychology discipline in parallel to increased number of people seeking for psychological support and more employment opportunities related to field of psychology.

Generally, psychologists provide psychological support and do clinical work in different institutions such hospitals, clinics, educational institutions and rehabilitation centers. Besides providing psychological support, they develop prevention programs to identify psychological and social risks and also increase resilience. Psychology graduates do not only carry out clinical work. Especially in recent years, their field of work have widened. The psychology graduates who have specialized in different subfields of psychology such as industrial psychology, sport psychology, social psychology and neuropsychology have started to work in various sectors. Depending on their expertise, they could work in private companies and non-governmental organizations.

Psychology Department of Beykoz University having started its undergraduate program in the fall of 2018-2019 academic year aims to enable psychology students to acquire both theoretical knowledge and work experience in different fields of psychology. The psychology undergraduate program allows students to specialize in different fields of psychology through its compulsory courses and elective courses, and providing opportunities for internship and scientific research. Considering wide range of settings the psychologist work, Psychology Undergraduate Program of Beykoz University will make an important contribution to field of psychology by enabling students to be competent psychologists specialized in various subfields of psychology.
