SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Course Objectives & Content

Course Objectives: The aim of the course is to introduce the field of neuroscience which have become popular in recent years and its subfields. It is aimed to examine the nervous system, senses and behaviors in the light of neuroscience starting from the cellular level to the behavioral level. In the second half of the course, popular neuroscience topics and widely used research methods will be explained.
Course Content: Starting from the brain anatomy, the nervous system, nerve cells and their structure, synaptic transmission and physiology of the senses will be explained. Sensory and motor systems, emotions, sleep and sleep disorders, and the neuroimaging techniques will be discussed.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs)

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) are those describing the knowledge, skills and competencies that students are expected to achieve upon successful completion of the course. In this context, Course Learning Outcomes defined for this course unit are as follows:
Knowledge (Described as Theoritical and/or Factual Knowledge.)
  1)
2.1) Knows the history of Behavioral Neuroscience
  2)
3.2) Have a basic knowledge about nervous system and brain anatomy.
  3)
4.3) Explains the structural and functional organization of human nervous system.
Skills (Describe as Cognitive and/or Practical Skills.)
  1)
2.1) Follows the studies of current neuroscience and physiological psychology field and evaluates with a critical perspective.
  2)
3.2) Uses the neuroscience perspective in the academic and clinical work.
Competences (Described as "Ability of the learner to apply knowledge and skills autonomously with responsibility", "Learning to learn"," Communication and social" and "Field specific" competences.)
  1)
2.1) Acquire knowledge on how a neuroscience research is conducted and what methods are used.
  2)
3.2) Explains the brain disorders, how our sensory organs work, the movement and control, and the research methods used in the field.
  3)
4.3) Relates the human behavior and nervous system.
