SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Course Objectives & Content

Course Objectives: It is aimed to enable the students to learn basic research, writing and presentation techniques and to acquire computer skills to apply those techniques, to enhance their skills of conducting literature review, assess, evaluate and report research findings, academic writing and presentation.
Course Content: This course deals with using research engines and searching academic database, structure and content of academic journal articles, techniques of literature review writing and different ways of research paper writing. 6th edition of APA Publication Manual, the rules of writing references and citations will be introduced. The students will learn basic rules of Word Program, main functions of PowerPoint Program and presentation techniques. The course will enable the students to practice APA 6 rules of writing and computer programs during the class. Turkish Psychological Association’s (TPA) ethic code will be introduced and ethic rules related to different sub-fields of psychology will be discussed. During the course the students will be able to practice their writing and presentation skills by writing many research papers including a literature review and making a presentation of this review.
