SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Course Objectives & Content

Course Objectives: In this lecture, a comprehensive explaination as well as tecniques and application process of procurement which is one of the most important function of logistics management will be given the students. A baseline for the purchasing professionals in all sections of the industries will be founded. The impact of procurement in organizations will open a new horizon for students. This lecture covers the place of procurement in logistics process, negotiation process, supplier selection and evaluation.
Course Content: Procurement process, from a narrow point of view, is regarded as a paper work,but actually it has a large scale and is very difficult to controll with a complex structure. Certainly, one of the biggest role which leads to this complex structure is the organizational assumption and the importance to this function. The more the importance the more complex is the structure but in opposite, it will be more professional in favor of the organization.
In this lecture the students will be given examples that enable to understand the subjects above and to rise awareness how to play active role in such operations.

  2) Can recognize basic purchasing fields like price analyses, contract administration, and expertise fields like basic logistics and supply chain management in theory and implementation
  3) Design and implement analytical, modeling and empirical based research in the field of Supply Chain and Logistics Management; To analyze and interpret complex situations encountered in this process.
  4) Supply Chain and Logistics Management is to identify and formulate problems, develop methods to solve them, and apply innovative methods in solutions.
  5) To critically evaluate, interpret and apply the expert knowledge and skills acquired in the field of Supply Chain and Logistics Management.

5) Negotiation and bargaining Information is given about the negotiation process and types of negotiators, which are the direct subject of purchasing activities. 8) ERP processes are processed within the framework of the organizational structure of the purchasing process and the issue of assigning the right purchasing personnel is addressed. Handouts Lecture notes, presentations, national and international articles.
9) Purchasing and Contract Management The subject is discussed in detail by mentioning the importance of the contract in purchasing and giving examples of how a contract should be. Handouts Lecture notes, presentations, national and international articles.
10) Purchasing and Quality Management By considering the concept of quality, brainstorming is done within the framework of the question of what quality is and what it is not for a business, and definitions of quality are tried to be put forward. 11) Supplier Tracking and Evaluation The evaluation and commissioning processes of suppliers who play a key role in purchasing are processed gradually. End-of-process supplier evaluation criteria are discussed. Handouts Lecture notes, presentations, national and international articles.
12) Purchasing in Supply Chain Management The importance of purchasing activities throughout the chain is emphasized, from the supply of goods for production to the delivery of a finished good to the final customer and even the concepts of reverse logistics.
