SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Course Objectives & Content

Course Objectives: The students will be able understand simple reading texts and small conversations in English. They’ll also be able write and speak about daily activities.
Course Content: Grammar: comparatives; superlatives; present continuous; be going to; would like; making sugggestions; should/ shouldn't; can/cannot; giving directions; appologizing; reccomending; offering to help.

Reading & Vocabulary: travel adjectives; places; social networking sites; appearance; types of film; transport collacations; excuses; future plans; phrases with get; art and culture; multi-tasking; adverbs of manner; the body, health; verbs of movement; telephoning expressions.

Writing: checking and correcting information about a holiday; comparing two holiday resorts; improving usage of pronouns by writing a comment on a photo; comparing different travelling options; writing a story using linkers; writing about future plans; making stories more interesting using adverbs; writing a paragraph about ways to be successful at school/work.

Listening& Speaking: listening to people talking travel and talking about travel preferences; describing a part of a city; watching a video about a travel show; listening to people talking about actors; describing people's appearance; talking about what people are doing; asking for recommendation; watching a video about changing shopping trends; talking about types of transport; listening to people taalking about their problems about getting to work; apologizing for being late; notetaking; talking about future plans; watching a documentary about weather; talking about unusual weather; listening a radio programme about illnesses; talking about ilnesses and health; talking about diets;
watching a video about fat and sugar; listening to phone conversations; talking on the phone.

  6) The students in this course can use some very basic words to ask for food and drink; name very common forms of transport; ask for and give a phone number; say their own age and ask someone about their age; ask someone what their job is and establish basic social contacts with simple, polite greetings and farewells.

  1) The students in this course can understand short, simple messages on postcards, emails and social networks.
  2) The students in this course can follow speech which is very slow and carefully articulated, with long pause and simple, everyday transactions (e.g. shopping and eating out) if carried out slowly and clearly.
