SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Course Objectives & Content

Course Objectives: This course aims to supply the knowledge and competence necessary to managing aviation safety. Students will study basic concepts related to aviation safety and will be able to discuss the factors affecting human performance. They will understand the concept of aviation safety as it relates to culture, using management models, software for dispatcher resource management programming, and safety management systems.
This course examines arrangements related to aviation security and the importance of security in aviation activities. After this course: students will be able to explain the basic concepts and describe the arrangements related to aviation security. They will be able to list airport security zones and explain plans and programs related to airport security. They will also be familiar with airport security applications and will be able to discuss and evaluate new developments in aviation security.
Course Content: A Safety Management System (SMS) within an organisation provides a systematic approach to managing safety. For an SMS to be effective, there must be the necessary organizational structures, accountabilities, responsibilities, policies and procedures. An effective SMS should enable an organization to identify hazards, assess risks and can be the mechanism to continuously improve safety performance.
