SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Course Objectives & Content

Course Objectives: The aim of this lecture is to teach the students about the planes and the main plane parts such as; fusulage, wings, tail, landing gear and the engines.
Course Content: In this course students will learn how a plane flies, which forces are acting on an aeroplane, what are the control surfaces of an aorplane (aileron, flaps, slots, elevators, rudder and other control parts), also the movement axis of the planes ( roll, pitch, yaw axis), take off, landing and turning of the plane, propellers, engines (diesel, wankel, roket & jet motors; turbojet, turbofan, variable cycle jet engine, ramjet, pulse jet, combined cycle, turboprop), what are the aircraft structure materials, aircraft structures, fusulage, wings, empennage, landing gears, types of aircrafts (acording to the wings, engines, used areas) will be explained. Students will also learn avionic instruments and navigation. Finally rotorcrafts and helicopters will be explained.

Knowledge (Described as Theoritical and/or Factual Knowledge.)
  1) The forces which affects planes are known.
  2) The student knows, roll axis, pitch axis and yaw axis of a plane.
  3) The student knows main control surfaces of a plane ( ailerone, elevator, rudder)
  4) Student knows auxiliary control surfaces (flaps, slots, spoiler, speed brakes ) of a plane.
  5) The student knows the plane engines (piston engines, turbojet, turbofan, turboprop, ramjet, pulsejet).
  6) The student knows propeller types of a plane.
  7) The student knows aircraft structure materials.
  8) The student knows aircraft structure and the methods of pruduction.
  9) The student knows the important avionic instruments of aplane.
  10) The student knows general knowledge about helicopters/rotorcraft.
Skills (Describe as Cognitive and/or Practical Skills.)
  1) They can implement the aviation application of the rules set by international civil aviation organizations and other airlines.
Competences (Described as "Ability of the learner to apply knowledge and skills autonomously with responsibility", "Learning to learn"," Communication and social" and "Field specific" competences.)
