SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Course Objectives & Content

Course Objectives: The aim is to comprehend the foundations of digital design and illustration, its historical development and social function, and the ability to create digital design and illustration with traditional and digital methods, the search for form, texture, pattern and formal integrity.
Course Content: Recognition of illustration materials and software and drawing exercises, researches, design production using limited forms, design and color relationship, formal integrity in design, teaching typographic use in design.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) are those describing the knowledge, skills and competencies that students are expected to achieve upon successful completion of the course. In this context, Course Learning Outcomes defined for this course unit are as follows:

  1) • Understands the basic principles of illustration and animation.
  2) • Categorizes and distinguishes illustrations according to their types and construction techniques.
Skills (Describe as Cognitive and/or Practical Skills.)
  1) • Recognizes the materials that can be used in traditional painting production and applies animation techniques.
  2) • Experience the illustration production process.
Competences (Described as "Ability of the learner to apply knowledge and skills autonomously with responsibility", "Learning to learn"," Communication and social" and "Field specific" competences.)
  1) • Synthesizes illustration methods and develops its own unique illustrative way to solve design problems.

1) 1. General information about digital design and illustration. Examining the works of universally recognized designers and illustrators. Content sharing on video art, digital animation, digital collage, typography.
2) 2. Typography in digital environment. Display fonts. Examination of typefaces in the context of legibility, attractiveness and functionality in digital environment.
3) 3. Illustration work in digital environment. Song / album artwork production in Adobe illustrator.
4) 4. Examining the relationship between illustration-typography. Continuation of the artwork project
5) 5. Completing the album artwork project
6) 6. Digital collage work. Visualization of the concept to be given via Adobe Photoshop. Typographic approaches in collage. Examining the works of designers such as Raygun magazine, David Carson, Neville Brody, Stefan Sagmeister.

10) 10. Introducing the geometric animation discipline in digital environment. To inform about art movements such as Bauhaus, Art Deco, De Stijl and to illustrate the works belonging to these movements in digital environment.
