SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Course Objectives & Content

Course Objectives: This aims to introduce students to physical workings of sound, technics of recording, editing and visual synchronization and conventions of cinema and television sound applications in order for them to produce sound application to moving image. This course is designed in a way that students are introduced to the processes of sound design via practical demonstration on every step.
Course Content: Students are first introduced with the physics and technical properties of analogue and digital sound in their own designated digital environment equipped with audio hardware and software. The course proceeds with weekly practical demonstrations of sound design conventions in order to open up space for students to experience utilization of digital audio workstations for technical as well as artistic purposes.

  1) Produces sound design application for audio-visual communication media, including cinema and TV.
  2) Evaluates the digital audio environment both as a technical and an artistic tool.
  3) Utilizes sound as a storytelling medium.
Competences (Described as "Ability of the learner to apply knowledge and skills autonomously with responsibility", "Learning to learn"," Communication and social" and "Field specific" competences.)
  1) Finalizes projects through independent artistic and operations decision making.
