SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Course Objectives & Content

Course Objectives: A student who successfully completes this course will be able to explain theoretically based on which theories cinema is studied. Will be able to compare films within the framework of a movie, a director or a cinema stream. The student will be able to structure his / her own ideas in the axis of theoretical explanations of cinema in order to develop his own cinematic view.
Course Content: The first theories that emerged after the development of cinema as an art form; theorists and filmmakers who advocate realism and formalism in cinema; film genres and narrative; Auteur approach; important cinema movements and theories; explaining cinema with concepts such as semiotics, psychoanalysis, feminism, queer; The concept of third cinema and the idea of ​​Dogma 95, and the new ideas brought to the cinema by the concept of postmodern together with digitalized cinema form the content of the course.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) are those describing the knowledge, skills and competencies that students are expected to achieve upon successful completion of the course. In this context, Course Learning Outcomes defined for this course unit are as follows:

  1) Defines the phenomenon of theory in cinema.
  2) Defines the first theoretical approaches in cinema.
  3) Evaluates the diversity of theoretical approaches in cinema.
Skills (Describe as Cognitive and/or Practical Skills.)
  1) Uses theoretical references while analyzing, analyzing or criticizing the film.
  2) It structures from the accumulation of theoretical movements in its own film and cinema practice.
  3) It develops theoretical thinking capacity on cinema aesthetics and form.
Competences (Described as "Ability of the learner to apply knowledge and skills autonomously with responsibility", "Learning to learn"," Communication and social" and "Field specific" competences.)
  1) The films are not solely on their own, but the intellectual background, the date they were shot, the director, the venue, etc. brings together thinking.
  2) Uses the necessary theoretical background for a systematic film / cinema analysis.
  3) Organizes theories of cinema interdisciplinary.
