SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Course Objectives & Content

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to provide the student with the necessary and sufficient biochemistry basis by teaching the subjects in the course of the course, to better understand the biochemistry subjects in the vocational courses and to use the knowledge they learn in their profession.
Course Content: Introduction to biochemistry, structure and classification of amino acids, function, structure, digestion and absorption of proteins, function, structure, digestion and absorption of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, enzymes, enzyme inhibition, vitamins, nucleic acids, digestion of macromolecules, introduction to metabolism, protein and amino acids metabolism, carbohydrate metabolism, lipid metabolism, biochemical thermodynamics and biological oxidations

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs)

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) are those describing the knowledge, skills and competencies that students are expected to achieve upon successful completion of the course. In this context, Course Learning Outcomes defined for this course unit are as follows:

  1) To define basic concepts in biochemistry
  2) To establish the connection between biochemistry and life sciences
  3) Define glycolysis, crebs, oxidative phosphorylation and total ATP gain, glycogenolysis, gluconeogenesis
  4) Chemical transformation in living organisms: summarizing the metabolism
  5) Fats and fatty acid oxidation, define urea cycle
  6) To define protein structure and functions
Skills (Describe as Cognitive and/or Practical Skills.)
  1) Students will have detailed information about the metabolism of biomolecules.
Competences (Described as "Ability of the learner to apply knowledge and skills autonomously with responsibility", "Learning to learn"," Communication and social" and "Field specific" competences.)
  1) The student learns complex biochemical reactions that enable them to develop diagnostic and therapeutic systems.
