SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Course Objectives & Content

Course Objectives: In this course, students should understand the relationship between graphic design and conceptual thinking; see how concepts are used in solving visual communication problems; It is aimed that they reach the competence of organizing the relationship between image and meaning and producing effective visual messages.
Course Content: Throughout the course, students are shown examples of graphic design studies that have an important place in the history of visual communication and conceptual thinking. In addition, the relationships between messages and images are handled; Information about the field of semiotics is given. It is explained how graphic elements such as photographs, illustrations, typography (letters, numbers) and figures are used to reflect concepts.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) are those describing the knowledge, skills and competencies that students are expected to achieve upon successful completion of the course. In this context, Course Learning Outcomes defined for this course unit are as follows:

  1) Defines the relationship between graphic design and conceptual thinking.
    2.1) Explain what the conceptual approach is and how it is used in graphic design.

  1) Learn to develop a concept for the transmission of a specific message.
  2) Learns how to visualize concepts.
  3) Generates original ideas for visual communication with a conceptual approach.

  1) Develops conceptual ideas for design projects.
  2) Learns to present conceptual ideas with appropriate visual tools.
