SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Course Objectives & Content

Course Objectives: Nowadays, rapid changes in economic, technological, legal and social fields increases strategic importance of human resources management and necessinates an strategic approach in this field.
Therefore, enterprises have to develop and implement various policies, methods and techniques in order to search, find, recruit, motivate,compensate, educate, employ in the right place and at the right time, to keep up their performances continuously and to provide their commitment to the company.
This course aims to give information about the basic principles and practices of human resources management to the managers who will work in different levels and units in the enterprises as well as those who will work in the human resources department of the enterprises.
Course Content: In this course, starting from the conceptual and historical development of HRM, strategic importance of HRM, basic framework and components of strategic HRM, basic functions and methods of HRM such as job analysis and job descriptions , job design, regulation of working conditions, human resource planning and selection, performance and career management, training and development, job evaluation and wage management, occupational safety and employee health are explained with examples.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) are those describing the knowledge, skills and competencies that students are expected to achieve upon successful completion of the course. In this context, Course Learning Outcomes defined for this course unit are as follows:
Knowledge (Described as Theoritical and/or Factual Knowledge.)
  1) They will be able to understand the transformation in working relations.
  2) They will be able to make sense of the complex relationship between strategic management and traditional human resources management.
  3) Has extensive knowledge of the strategic importance of HRM, basic functions of strategic human resource management, HR planning, selection, job evaluation, wage and salary system, career and performans management and occupational health and safety, labour reşations
  4) They will be able to explain generations and work values.
  5) Has knowledge of planning, assessment and evaluation techniques and methods in the field of human resources management
Skills (Describe as Cognitive and/or Practical Skills.)
  1) Takes part actively in collecting, processing, analyzing and controlling of human resources data
  2) Be able to take part in planning,organization and application activities of job evaluation, wage administration, performans appraisal and training & development programs
  3) Be able to design different forms and document used in HRM, make job analyses, prepare job description and job specification documents
