SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Course Objectives & Content

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to develop students’ academic English skills. The course aims to enable students to progress in their language abilities and communicate effectively in academic contexts at a basic level. In this context, it is designed to improve students’ ability to comprehend academic texts, produce basic academic writing, understand spoken input and take notes, and deliver simple academic presentations. In addition, the course aims to help students express themselves clearly and effectively in academic settings and use fundamental academic language structures appropriately.
Course Content: This course focuses on developing students’ academic English skills through a range of structured activities. The content includes learning basic academic vocabulary and expressions, reading simple academic texts to identify main ideas and supporting details, and writing short, well-structured paragraphs. It also covers the use of basic connectors and language structures. Through listening activities, students develop their ability to understand information and take notes, while they are also encouraged to give short academic presentations and express their ideas. Group work and practical tasks are also included to support the development of students’ academic communication skills.

Course Specific Rules

Class Participation:
Students are expected to attend classes regularly and actively participate in classroom activities. Participation is an essential part of the learning process.
Assignments and Deadlines:
All assignments and projects must be submitted on time and completed as required. Late submissions may not be accepted or may result in a grade penalty.
Examinations:
Exams are conducted in accordance with university regulations. Students are required to adhere to the principles of academic integrity during all assessment processes.
