SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Course Objectives & Content

Course Objectives: This course aims to create an awareness about the importance of personal grooming and civilized behavors in sociaety. The importance of protocol rules. To learn the correct forms of speaking to use Turkish correctly.
Course Content: The importance of personal grooming, rules of protocol, good manners. Basic sound exercises, diction rules and applications.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) are those describing the knowledge, skills and competencies that students are expected to achieve upon successful completion of the course. In this context, Course Learning Outcomes defined for this course unit are as follows:
Knowledge (Described as Theoritical and/or Factual Knowledge.)
  1) Gains the knowledge of personal grooming.
  2) Learns how to behave in society according to social environments and worklife.
  3) Puts all theatrical information into action.
  4) Pronouncing sounds correctly with knowing articulation and the turkish audio features.
  5) To make the correct and proper intonation and accents. To utter through correct sound and breath.

1) The importance of personal grooming.
2) Rules of protocol. The concept of being polite and well mannerred.
3) Protocol rules during official ceremonies. The rules of greeting, meeting and being introduced. Rules of saluting and speaking on the phone.

9) Why do we need to speak effectively and beautifully? What should we do to gain this ability? Sharing good and bad examples of speaking. To be able to pronunciate, one has to know phonetic rules of the sound. The importance of breathing while speaking and making the right pronunciation. Exercises for using the diaphragm right way while speaking.
10) Common mistakes that people make while speaking. Getting the speaking speed right, speaking problems/disorders. The words that are commonly pronounced wrong. Examples and exercises. Non
11) The articulation point of consonants and vowels. Exercises for gaining the right pronunciton. Sharing audio files to make students to realise that many vowels have different ways of pronunciton. 12) Liason and types of liason. Examples and exercises. What is stressing while speaking? The definition of stress (in language). The importance of stress in words and sentences.
13) The rules of speaking in front of a crowd and microphone. Exercises of greeting and presenting. Finding the most repated mistakes in news in media, and correcting the mistakes
14) Students' presentations.
